Industrial Controls Systems Engineer

Key Role:

Assist in prototyping and developing Industrial Control System (ICS) testbeds. Build and configure physical ICS testbeds for multiple vendors. Design and document testbed layouts and electrical connections. Fabricate testbeds using tools and instruments for assembling panels and testbeds. Program and configure industrial control components, including programmable logic controllers (PLC), building controls, and human machine interface (HMI). Develop bills of materials, guides, and manuals for testbeds. Perform maintenance and modifications on existing testbeds.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience installing ICS devices, programming PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA server
  • Experience designing automation control systems from customer specifications and installing, maintaining, servicing, testing, and troubleshooting local and field control devices, ICS hardware, and ICS software
  • Experience with industrial controls communications protocols, including Modbus, S7, or BACnet
  • Experience developing bills of materials and documentation for projects
  • Experience wiring and troubleshooting electrical devices at 120 volt and below
  • Experience performing general computer, server, and control network maintenance, diagnostics, and data backups of workstations servers
  • Knowledge of electrical drawings, control diagrams, and basic system network design, installation, and configuration
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with distributed control systems and remote terminal units
  • Experience with multiple industrial processes, including water, power, building automation, refinery, or manufacturing
  • Experience developing 3D CAD models of parts and panels
  • Experience with 3D printers
  • Knowledge of OEM ICS vendor products and suites
  • Knowledge of ICS protocols such as DNP3, OPC, CANBus, Profinet, or EthernetIP
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations, including NEC, IEEE, NFPA, or OSHA
  • Knowledge of the UL 508A standard
  • Bachelor’s degree in Control and Automation Engineering

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,600.00 to $172,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
