Tactical Network Engineer, Mid

The Opportunity: 

A well-designed network is critical to move data and enable to achieve their missions, but how can an organization make sure their network will fit their evolving needs? Crafting the right network, with the right equipment and software, requires a combination of technical skill and careful planning. That’s why we need you, an experienced network engineer who knows how to develop the needs of the network. 

As a tactical network engineer on our team, you’ll use your experience in network design and architecture, system interoperability, OSI model, network transport layers, multi-protocol label switching, gateway protocol, and virtual routing and forwarding to support the nation’s defense and respond to evolving adversaries. You’ll upgrade or develop enterprise-wide infrastructure, troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, analyze working infrastructures, and increase security, reliability, and availability for mission-critical network systems. You’ll apply your expertise in routing and switching, integration of encryption gear, network design and architecture, system interoperability, IP engineering, network transport layers, multi-protocol label switching, gateway protocol, and virtual routing and forwarding as you join our team of problem-solvers to help the DoD evolve and deploy new capabilities and technologies. 

Your knowledge of network protocols, equipment, emerging technology, and configurations will come in handy as you optimize client operations and modernization. Using your experience in cryptographic equipment, cryptography, key management, software and hardware firewalls, Cisco hardware, Palo Alto firewalls, cloud migration, optical infrastructure networking, virtual routing and forwarding, and SolarWinds, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients on mission-critical projects. Using your technical curiosity and knowledge of industry standards, you’ll make an impact on national security missions. This position will require travel of up to 75% of the time.

You Have: 

  • 4+ years of experience with Military or Tactical Network Operations (NetOps), including Network Management (NM), Information Assurance (IA), Information Dissemination Management (IDM), or Electromagnetic Spectrum Management (ESM) 

  • Experience with managing and resolving technical issues of the hardware and software technical baseline

  • Experience with supporting formal testing and associated fielding, installation, and training activities

  • Experience with participating in subsystem and system testing as the technical expert or Subject Matter Expert (SME)

  • Knowledge of force tactical and strategic military communications networks and the architecture, protocols, security, network management, and physics underlying these systems 

  • Knowledge of the engineering design, installation, operations, and maintenance of the Tactical Network architecture or program 

  • Knowledge of NetOps planning and management in support of real world or training missions on deployment

  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time

  • Secret clearance

  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have: 

  • Experience with participating in COTS software evaluations

  • Experience with participating in technical reviews 

  • Experience with supporting technical management processes

  • Experience with representing NetOps branch and PdM at meetings 

  • Experience in coordinating with other PEO stakeholders in matters associated with NetOps 

  • Experience with providing information and decision briefs to NetOps leadership and PdM or PM leadership

Clearance:

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $60,400.00 to $137,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
