Communications Strategist

We’re looking for an experienced communications specialist like you, who is ready to grow and willing to win for the client and live our mission every day. Here, you’ll advance your consulting skills to design, develop, produce, and consult on a variety of internal and external communication materials and media that supports a DoD client office and oversee multiple concurrent communications related tasks addressing engagements wit national media. As a communications specialist on our team, you’ll closely impact the development of creative solutions to complex problems. Your self-guided yet collaborative spirit will shape and nurture relationships with team members, stakeholders, and clients to bring in-depth understanding and expertise to one or more aspects of military service or joint missions, processes, and culture. 

As a collaborator on all aspects of oral and written communications, you’ll monitor the status of media articles, news reporters’ focus areas, defense legislation, and pertinent congressional hearings, markups, and floor action and develop forward-leaning communications efforts on highly sensitive subject matter of significant congressional interest.  You will support preparation of client staff for media engagements and congressional hearings, helping draft responses to media and congressional inquiries. You will develop advanced understanding of policy and legislative matters for the purpose of advising client leaders and offices on communication strategies and responses to local, regional, and national media. You will coordinate with appropriate government officials to obtain review and approval of time-sensitive deliverables and translate technical DoD policy and program efforts into consumable messaging for consumption by media and Congress.

You Have:   

  • 3+ years of experience in strategic communications or legislative affairs 

  • Experience with researching issues, developing expertise, and drafting concise messaging, talking points, and speeches for senior leaders to accurately convey priorities and manage risks

  • Experience with researching, reviewing, and analyzing legislative, regulatory, and executive-branch policy documents, including Executive Orders, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Register, or DoD issuances

  • Experience with preparing leadership for briefing media and testifying to and meeting with government leaders and pertinent congressional staff members

  • Experience with researching and writing background papers, talking points, and oral and written statements, including legislative briefings to leadership

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Secret clearance 

  • Bachelor’s degree 

Nice If You Have:   

  • Experience with working on Capitol Hill as a congressional staffer, including in a communication or press rol

  • Experience with the DoD and its senior leadership offices

  • Experience with DoD personnel policy organizations and offices

  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills  

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related fields 

Clearance:

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $52,100.00 to $119,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
