Director of Media Relations

Key Role:

Provide senior-level planning and supervision for all aspects of the organization’s media relations work and engage and support components of the broader Corporate Affairs function, including marketing, government relations, military affairs, and corporate social responsibility. Direct media support and strategic guidance for members of the firm’s senior leadership team and other senior subject matter experts, build and enhance senior media relationships, execute proactive and reactive media strategies for key corporate and business unit priorities, and lead the day-to-day management of operational functions. Serve as a senior liaison for multiple external agency or vendor contacts. Develop and lead innovative media relations strategies and campaigns that protect and promote the firm’s brand and reputation, with a focus on integration of strategy, messaging, and execution across the entire Corporate Affairs organization. Develop and execute the firm’s financial communications to support the Investor Relations, Finance, and CEO Office organizations, including supporting the quarterly earnings call, drafting and promoting quarterly earnings releases, as well as M&A, banking, and other financial transaction announcements. Plan and execute crisis communications plans related to risks at the corporate level and activities and programs executed by the firm’s business units. Develop, retain, and attract high-caliber talent. 

Basic Qualifications:

-15+ years of experience as a communications and media relations professional, including working with a publicly traded, mission-driven organization

-Experience in directing staff to blend a full range of earned, owned and paid media, including mainstream, trades, blogs, and podcasts with editorial, paid and self-published media

-Experience with driving an audience-driven media strategy versus a preconception about channels
-Experience with marketing, communications, legislative or campaign grassroots development, public affairs, public relations or branding, including strategic messaging, integrated communications campaigns, and digital and social media

-Ability to build, maintain, and expand successful relationships with national, regional, and local media
-Ability to provide leadership, strategic focus, and management oversight for proactive and reactive media outreach across platforms

-BA or BS degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Political Science

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience in a public relations agency or equivalent within a major corporation or organization

-Experience with successfully leading a media relations function for a professional services firm

-Ability to collaborate in a matrixed environment

-Ability to leverage expertise in interpersonal and diplomacy work, including high emotional intelligence and motivating team members and colleagues

-Ability to be business savvy, including financial acumen

-Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, diverse, high-pressure environment

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-MA or MS degree or completion of post-graduate work
