The Opportunity:

As a gamified instructional designer, you know that even the best tools and processes can’t have an impact without the right education. Constructing an interactive course that teaches critical information, requires a real passion for understanding the needs of your customer. We have an opportunity for a gamified instructional designer, who is committed to solving some of the toughest challenges in Warfighter Performance by crafting effective training.
On our team, you’ll work with SMEs, scientists, instructors, product designers, and engineers to capture your customer’s training needs and advise them on the right learning solution to help them accomplish their mission. Putting the learner at the center of the training experience, you’ll design synchronous, asynchronous material, or performance support tools. You’ll build training material with multimedia specialists, graphic artists, developers, and engineers, following the ADDIE model.
You’ll use your technical skills, creativity, and experience to come up with new ideas to develop an engaging, interactive learning experience on screen or in a classroom. You’ll recommend cutting-edge multimedia technologies and strategies, including blended learning, screencasting, and gamification to build a successful learning environment. You know communication is key, so you’ll meet with SMEs, instructors, product designers, and engineers throughout the process to discuss learning material and incorporate feedback. To ensure your solution is hitting the mark, you’ll collect and analyze results using evaluation methodologies such as the Kirkpatrick Model then fine-tune your training for maximum impact. You’ll be able to hone your leadership skills as you share your expertise through leadership and mentoring. As a leader, you’ll identify new opportunities to build solutions to your customer’s learning needs. You Have:
- Experience designing and developing gamified learning, including serious games, branching scenarios, simulations, challenges and quests, points, badges, and levels for adult learners in high-consequence environments
- Experience building blended learning solutions, including instructor-led (ILT/VILT), eLearning, microlearning, and performance support, such as job aids, checklists, and in-app guidance
- Knowledge of gamification mechanics and ethical design, including progression, feedback loops, mastery, and balancing extrinsic rewards with intrinsic motivation
- Ability to create high-quality storyboards, scripts, and interaction specs that developers and multimedia teams can execute cleanly
- Ability to rapidly prototype interactive learning, such as clickable prototypes and short pilots, and iterate based on usability and testing results
- Ability obtain a Secret clearance
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning sciences, game design, interactive media, HCI, or UX, OR Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience in instructional design, learning sciences, game design, interactive media, HCI, or UX
Nice If You Have:
- Experience developing scenario-based training for military, tactical, medical, safety, or other mission-critical contexts
- Experience designing for mobile-first or disconnected or low-bandwidth environments, including deploying content to edge
- Knowledge of learning Experience (LX) Design and UX methods, including learner journey mapping, usability testing, and iterative design sprints
- Knowledge of multimedia and interaction patterns, including motion and visual design basics, audio and video best practices, and branching logic patterns
- Knowledge of evaluation beyond Kirkpatrick, including learning measurement strategy, performance metrics, and operational and behavioral indicators
- Ability to create assessment strategies including criterion-referenced tests, performance checklists, and scenario scoring rubrics that map to real-world tasks
- Secret clearance
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, HCI, UX, Educational Technology, Interactive Media and Game Design, or related degree
- Human-Centered Design, UX, or related certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $69,400.00 to $158,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
