Autonomy Engineer

Key Role:

Contribute to a high-risk research and development program by combining expertise across robotics, autonomy, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). Build on applied robotics expertise in autonomy, software development, robotics modeling and simulation, perception, networking, field testing, and vulnerability assessment and support DoD agencies on technologically disruptive programs while maintaining and building relationships with clients. Work with world-class scientists and engineers to impact national security investment through the development of novel military applications for cutting-edge technologies. Provide strategic assessments of new technologies to support senior DoD decision makers, including conducting background research, evaluating the feasibility of new concepts, identifying technological gaps in need of strategic investment, and identifying potential applications for disruptive technological concepts. Apply expertise in providing technical support to managing program management and execution risks. Produce and present findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients, assist with technical program management and program development, and brief materials out for government research and development efforts. Draft technical briefings for both technical and public audiences, perform travel for program reviews, site visits, and performer testing, and work as part of a diverse team to meet client needs.

Basic Qualifications:

-3+ years of experience with developing and implementing autonomy in applied robotics, including research in a graduate program

-2+ years of experience with robotics hardware and testing

-1+ years of experience with a Robot Operating System (ROS)

-Experience with Agile software development, Python, and C++

-Ability to be self-motivated and work in a fast-paced environment

-Ability to commute to Arlington, VA

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-MA or MS degree in CS, Cognitive Science, Mathematics, or Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with applying machine learning to robotics applications

-Experience with robotic field testing and evaluation

-Experience with technical project or program management

-Experience with DoD research and development projects

-Knowledge of multiple relevant disciplines

-Ability to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies to support new concept development

-Possession of excellent client service skills

-Active Secret clearance preferred

-PhD in CS, Cognitive Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
