Electromagnetic Protection Specialist

The Challenge:

What if you could use your engineering skills to transform the Air Force? As an electrical engineer or physicist, you understand the power behind complex systems. That knowledge is key when it comes to assessing the effects of nuclear weapons on electronics systems. We’re looking for an electrical engineer or physicist who can use their skills to assist the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) with conducting High-altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) Hardness Assurance assessments of Air Force systems to ensure survivable systems and a credible nuclear deterrent force.

Our team at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, assists the AFNWC to certify HEMP survivability using the results of previous EMP tests, system designs and weapons system life cycle sustainment activities. That’s why we need you, an electrical engineer or physicist who specializes in electromagnetic effects to help us implement a hardness assurance survey to assess AF weapons system hardness and survivability. We’ll look to you to share your electrical engineering expertise through leadership and mentoring junior staff. This is a chance to use your experience-based knowledge of electromagnetic effects while broadening your skillset into areas like weapons system survivability and hardening. You’ll leverage experience as an EMP phenomenology specialist to conduct HEMP hardness analysis on AF weapons systems. You’ll use your engineering and program management experience in weapons systems design and management and test and evaluation. You’ll apply knowledge of electromagnetics and nuclear weapons effects and experience with AF systems survivability to assess weapons system HEMP hardness. You’ll assist a team to identify all aspects of HEMP-related issues and provide recommendations to mitigate or eliminate identified vulnerabilities. Join us and take on exciting challenges as we support the Air Force.

You Have:

-Experience in a military or civilian position with a focus on electromagnetic effects

-Experience with electromagnetic phenomenology and associated technologies

-Experience with addressing EM protection in weapons systems

-Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and preparing PowerPoint presentations and reports

-TS/SCI clearance

-BS degree

Nice If You Have:

-Experience with higher-level requirements documentation and processes for AF nuclear capable air systems

-Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the appropriate offices to determine points of contact to conduct an in-depth evaluation and of AF systems

-Knowledge of the appropriate information necessary to assess the current EMP hardness status of systems, including DoD HEMP Military Standards, mission expectations and requirements, EMP test and evaluation processes, policy and training, organizational procedures, maintenance requirements, operational instructions, AF Technical Orders, design documentation, engineering change and modification processes, and EMP test plans and procedures

-Ability to manage planning, coordination, data collection, and analysis needed to evaluate AF systems of interest and their ability to complete their mission due to EMP effects

-Ability to conduct system and subsystem integration analysis on AF systems technologies, that including reviewing AF systems documents, configuration control documents, specifications, critical path analysis, maintenance, operations, and risk management and mitigation
-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-BS degree in EE or a scientific field preferred; MS or PhD degree in Physics or EE a plus

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and will need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
