Energy Technology Research and Development Analyst

Key Role:

Act as a science and engineering adviser to a federal energy research and development (R&D) funding agency. Work directly with the client to assist with the identification of promising areas for investment. Assist with framing technical challenges and opportunities and prioritizing potential R&D pathways across a wide range of energy technologies. Conduct literature searches to identify state-of-the-art technologies, emerging technical approaches, and key technical experts. Organize technical workshops and other technical brainstorming and ideation and summarize findings. Combine fundamental theory with practical considerations to recommend technical targets, including performance and cost goals that would be transformational, if achieved. Perform analysis to estimate energy impact, including reduced energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions that would result from successful technology development. This position is located in Washington, DC.

Basic Qualifications:

-3+ years of experience with technology analysis support for government or R&D organizations

-Experience with analyzing a diverse set of energy technologies

-Ability to learn new areas quickly
-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-MS or ME degree

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience in working with the Department of Energy

-Experience in energy market or with policy analysis

-Experience with creating or using technoeconomic analyses to identify key cost drivers and prioritize research needs

-Experience with designing and modeling chemical or manufacturing processes or life cycle assessments

-Experience in interacting regularly with deep technical subject matter experts

-Ability to exhibit flexibility and adaptability and be team-oriented

-Ability to demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness when dealing with uncertainty and ask insightful questions that challenge traditional thinking

-Possession of excellent data gathering, analytical, problem-solving, and client service skills
-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-MS or ME degree in Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering field preferred; PhD degree in a science or engineering field with a focus on energy technology
