Water Programs Action Officer

Key Role:

Serve as an action officer for the office of DoD clean water, safe drinking water, solid waste management, and recycling programs. Assist with strategizing, developing and coordinating clean water, safe drinking water, recycling and storm water management programs with the DoD components. Assess DoD policy for gaps, facilitating discussions with the DoD components, and offer recommendations for updates to or developing new policy, guidance, goals, and metrics to improve relevant programs, as necessary. Assist with maintenance of the DoD instruction and provide input to other issuances pertaining to areas of responsibility. Develop and deliver information and decision briefings, respond to DoD staff tasking, including data calls, drafting white papers, briefings, and budget assessment and prepare packages for coordination and senior leadership signature. Oversee the storm water management programs working group, including preparing and coordinating the agenda, preparing presentation and read ahead materials, facilitating the meeting, and drafting the minutes and action items for appropriate action. Develop written technical reports, white papers, executive summaries, briefings, reports to congress, factsheets, or other deliverable formats, as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

-8+ years of experience in supporting environmental programs, including water programs

-Experience in working with senior executives at multiple organizational levels

-Experience with Microsoft Office and standard computer applications

-Knowledge of Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, solid waste management, and recycling

-Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment, while maintaining flexibility and versatility

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BA or BS degree in environmental science or environmental policy

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with DoD environmental policy and programs

-Knowledge of the structure and missions of the Office of DoD components, preferred

-Knowledge of DoD issues, policies, programs and procedures affecting clean water, safe drinking water, solid waste management, and recycling programs

-Ability to foster solid relationships that promote cooperation and communicate expectation, analyze situations and make informed decision

-Ability to communicate effectively and concisely using a variety of styles and techniques appropriate to the audience

-Possession of excellent interpersonal skills

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-Secret clearance a plus
