Cartographer

Key Role:

Design, analyze, and develop geospatial solutions and product specifications for infrastructure, hydrographic, and physiographic features for global Geospatial images and vector products. Perform geographic information systems (GIS) analyses on natural resources data and plan, design, develop, document, and analyze spatial and relational databases. Apply software to manage spatial and related tabular data, build databases by capturing map information with coordinate digitizer, produce computer map products depicting contents of databases, and locate sources of GIS data. Provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity, work under general supervision, follow established procedures, and submit work for review for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy, and accuracy. Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects and conduct and maintain responsibility for all geographic databases, including shape files, hard copy maps, rasters, vectors, imagery, geographic data, and distributing needed files to designers in the appropriate formats. Stay abreast of new technology developments in the geographic and cartographic realm by attending conferences, summits, meetings, and other industry gatherings, ensure maps are designed correctly, and maintain quality assurance and quality control oversight. Ensure cartographic principal standardization, best practices, and procedures, write cartographic standard operating procedures, and provide ad hoc map creation and cartographic design support, as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

-Experience with cartography

-Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook

-Experience with Adobe Suite, ArcGIS, Map Publisher plug–in, Google Earth, KML, and SharePoint

-Knowledge of world geography and standard cartographic practices

-TS/SCI clearance

-BA or BS degree

-Ability to get the job done in rapidly–changing, task–oriented environments

-Ability to be flexible and learn new technologies or tools quickly

-Ability to work in a dynamic, multi–contractor environment

-Possession of excellent written communication skills
