Chemist/Materials Scientist

Key Role:

Provide professional services to a government research and development client serving as an expert in the principles and applications of chemistry or material science towards the development of first–of–kind electrochemical energy storage technologies, including batteries and fuel cells. Work collaboratively with world–class scientists and engineers to advance a broad base of energy–related research and development areas. Complete technical landscape studies and various requests for scientific assistance with energy storage and other materials and systems. Conduct background research for evaluating the feasibility and commercial applications of new technological concepts. Produce and present findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients. Assist with technical program management, program development, and briefing materials for government R&D efforts. Maintain and leverage technical expertise and relationships in serving clients and provide technical and strategic assessments of new technologies in support of senior decision makers.

Basic Qualifications:

-2+ years of experience with chemistry or material science related to electrochemical energy storage development

-2+ years of experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for both technical and non–technical audiences

-2+ years of experience with postdoctoral, industry research, or consulting work

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-PhD degree required 

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with energy–related material development, including electrochemical aspects of metallurgy, heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, polymers for high strength composites, materials corrosion and leaching, and analytical chemistry that applies to those topics

-Experience with technical consulting to government agencies preferred

-Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project

-Ability to be flexible in work topics, adapt to new people and perspectives, and display enthusiasm to work in a collaborative team environment

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills on complex technical subjects

-PhD degree in Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Electro–Chemistry, or Materials Science preferred
