Job Description

Job Number: R0031289

Electrical and Computer Engineer

The Challenge:

Are you looking for an opportunity to put your engineering skills to the test and build tools that will be used for lawful investigations of criminals and threat actors? This job has a little bit of everything, and we’re looking for a well-rounded engineer who can dive into hardware one day and software the next, someone who can get their hands dirty one-day and step back and help manage team processes too. Our focus is on understanding flash memory technology, embedded systems and consumer electronics, and developing hardware and software tools to interface with them. We’re always looking for hackers and tinkerers and people who like figuring out how things work - whether you’re the type to pull out a soldering iron to show off your circuits knowledge, or the type who prefers to compile from the source. Our team prioritizes speed to field and fill the gaps in digital investigations, but never at the expense of quality work. In other words, it doesn’t have to look good, but it has to work well enough for the investigators relying on us.

We need an engineer who will use their passion and expertise in the engineering field to advance our digital forensics capabilities, research and solve unique problems with custom solutions, and deliver new techniques and tools to access and recover digital evidence. Whether your background is in software or hardware, be ready to take things apart, prototype, and build tools for recovering and interpreting data. Skills like in-circuit debugging and electronics rework are valuable, as is a deep understanding of flash memory technology, including flash translation layers and wear-leveling. You should have some comfort with coding in order to analyze and validate data and findings C/C++ and Python are favorites and any experience you have with Android and iOS is beneficial. Additionally, you’ll work in a collaborative team of embedded developers and engineers to brainstorm and engineer new digital investigative capabilities. A high level of organization and reliability is important, as you’ll take ownership of certain processes and tracking completion of projects by our team to ensure on-time delivery. Join us as we build systems to change law enforcement for the better.

Empower change with us.
