DevOps Engineer

The Charleston Digital Hub of Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking qualified candidates for a Systems Engineer in the Charleston, SC area.

The Charleston Digital Hub is a software development hub of Booz Allen that operates and executes much like a fast-paced startup within the larger organization. The System Administrator (SE) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and customer delivery expectations. 


  • Manage day to day operations of virtualized development and production infrastructure 
  • Monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair 
  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability 
  • Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations. 
  • Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources. 
  • Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse. 
  • Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications. 


-Experience in system administration in a data center environment or public Cloud – comprehend relationship between applications, operating system, software and Cloud resources 

-Knowledge of virtualization and Cloud computing architectures and concepts 

-Experience with VMware, Linux, Windows, and open source software 

-Solid scripting skills, including shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, and Python

-Experience with build automation, configuration management and continuous integration tools such as Chef and Jenkins 

-Experience with common computing platform configuration processes, including ITIL, Agile, and DevOps

-Experience with monitoring tools, including Foglight, Splunk, and New Relic

-Must live in Charleston, SC or be willing to relocate

-Ability to obtain a security clearance


-Experience with Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or CloudFoundry 

-Experience with application server and Web servers like IIS, Apache, Oracle WebLogic, NginX, and Node.js

-Experience with implementing automated processes to PaaS/IaaS environments 

-Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field

-Proficiency with databases and Oracle SQL
