Electromagnetic Pulse Subject Matter Expert

Key Role:
Leverage expertise in electromagnetic pulse (EMP) phenomenology to analyze and support the development of modeling and simulation (M&S) tools for characterizing generation of mid-altitude EMP environments resulting from nuclear weapon events. Collaborate with Department of Energy (DOE) and DoD agencies to analyze the development of M&S tools and their integration with existing analysis platforms. Analyze and execute a software development cycle consistent with the project period of performance, including gathering requirements and supporting design, testing, documentation, and configuration management. Perform capabilities analysis of existing commercial and non-commercial software and analyze the development of new modeling tools.

Basic Qualifications:

-Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including preparing PowerPoint presentations and reports
-Knowledge of physics, nuclear weapons effects environments, and EMP phenomenology, including generation processes, effects, and standard models and theories, assumptions, and limitations
-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-MS degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics required

Additional Qualifications:
-Experience with M&S in a military or civilian role, including nuclear and EMP environments

-Experience with existing DOE and DoD EMP simulation tools and databases

-Experience with scientific coding in C/C++, Python, Matlab, or equivalent, including reading and evaluating scientific code

-Experience with research and development (R&D) project management

-Ability to identify required tasks, technical challenges, and risks, estimate timelines for developmental tasks, and accomplish the delivery of required capabilities to meet project schedule    

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
-PhD degree in Physics, EE, Mathematics, or an equivalent field preferred
