Energy Communications Consultant

Key Role:

Provide professional media relations and stakeholder outreach support to a government research and development client. Translate technical and scientific information into compelling, plain-language narratives for reporters, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Build, maintain, and update press lists, editorial calendars, and a stakeholder outreach database, follow relevant news media, social media, and stakeholder announcements closely to flag proactive media and stakeholder outreach opportunities for the client. Draft talking points and media interview briefing memos for senior client leadership. Assist with pitching client announcements to reporters, Capitol Hill offices, and stakeholder associations and draft and edit press releases and pitch memos. Improve existing hard copy and electronic press kit, assist with drafting 1-page success stories on client projects for dissemination to reporters, Capitol Hill, and other stakeholders, and manage media outreach, attendance, and support for an annual client conference. Lead client's social media outreach, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube, compile weekly press clips and social media reports for the client, and staff clients during media interviews and other interactions. This position has no routine remote work and is located in Washington, DC.

Basic Qualifications:

-3+ years of experience with media and stakeholder outreach, in a federal government agency, Capitol Hill office, political campaign, or non-profit or trade organization environment

-3+ years of experience with public relations writing, including press releases, media advisories, pitch memos, editorial memos, and talking points

-3+ years of experience with social media, including managing Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube profiles

-3+ years of experience in the energy industry or with translating complicated scientific or technical language for non-technical audiences

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

-Experience in a consulting environment a plus

-Experience with VOCUS or other media monitoring systems a plus

-Knowledge of energy and finance publications and associations and Capitol Hill media and offices a plus

-Knowledge of the energy industry a plus

-Ability to be proactive and display an outgoing personality

-Ability to organize complex projects

-Ability to exhibit flexibility and adaptability and work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

-Possession of excellent client service skills

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-BA or BS degree in Communications, Marketing, Political Science, or a related field preferred
