Health Physics Operations Manager

Key Role:

Provide administrative and technical services to ensure effective oversight of dosimetry operations, including ensuring that the operations department staff is properly trained in the safe use, handling, and storage of radioactive material during processing operations, including properly following regulatory requirements. Manage dosimetry processing shipping, receiving, segregation, reading, and reporting, including maintaining responsibility of property management for inventory control and equipment maintenance, testing, calibrating, and inventory controlling. Develop or revise operations manuals and procedures in accordance with current regulatory and administrative requirements. Identify process improvements and prepare recommendations for improvement, address corrective actions assigned to operations, and compile statistics related to operations for weekly meetings. Manage the In-Vivo Monitoring (Whole-Body) counting facility program, including assisting in the administration policies and instructions of the program and the operations, and maintain the In-Vivo Monitoring (Whole-Body) and counting equipment. Serve as a member on investigative teams by supporting data gathering, analysis, and corrective action planning for the corrective action program.


Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience in nuclear engineering, health physics, or radiation dosimeter

-Ability to show proficiency in major computer operating systems, including Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BA or BS degree


Additional Qualifications:

-Experience in an In Vivo Gamma Spectroscopy facility

-Experience with research in the development of new dosimetric devices

-Experience with MATLAB coding

-Knowledge of external dosimetry programs, including passive and electronic external (whole-body) dosimetry, extremity dosimetry, accident dosimetry, and an internal dosimetry program that detects internal radioactivity within personnel

-Knowledge radiation dosimetry processing and thermoluminescent dosimeters 

-Ability to respond to requests for exposure history

-Ability to prepare summary reports of the exposure to Navy and Marine Corps personnel

-Secret security clearance

-MA or MS degree in physics or engineering
