High Energy Laser/Directed Energy Consultant

Key Role:

Serve as a technical consultant for high-risk government research and development programs regarding high energy laser (HEL) technologies and systems. Work with world-class scientists and engineers to provide technical support to a national security investment developing military application solutions using cutting-edge technologies. Maintain and leverage technical expertise and relationships when serving clients. Provide technical management support and technical assessments of new technologies to support R&D leadership, including background research, such as evaluating the feasibility of and potential applications for new technological concepts. Produce and present findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients, assist with technical program management and program development, and brief materials out for government research and development efforts.


Basic Qualifications:

-3+ years of experience with the development or integration of technologies for HEL systems, including fiber lasers, fiber-laser pump diodes, beam control systems, spectral or coherent beam combination, target acquisition and tracking systems, or power and thermal management systems for high energy laser applications

-2+ years of experience with analyzing the preparation of briefings, authoring technical papers, reports, and program plans for technical and non-technical audiences

-Experience with analyzing the planning and coordination of advanced technology programs

-Experience with the DoD acquisition process and R&D program life cycle

-Ability to be self-motivated and work in a fast-paced environment

-Ability to commute to Arlington, VA

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-MA or MS degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, EE, or Physics


Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with free-space beam propagation modeling and simulation through atmospheric or aircraft boundary layer turbulence

-Experience with studying, developing, or integrating laser-based DoD systems, including IR countermeasures, laser designators, radar, range finders, and target illuminators

-Experience with high energy laser effects and damage assessment of materials

-Experience with investigating nonlinearities in fiber-based laser and communications systems

-Experience with technical project or program management

-Knowledge of multiple relevant fields

-Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of technical, financial, programmatic, and security professionals

-Ability to stay current on current and emerging technologies supporting new concept development

-Possession of excellent client service skills

-Active Secret clearance preferred

-PhD degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, EE, Physics, or a related field
