High Energy Laser Engineer and Scientist

The Challenge:

As a High Energy Laser Engineer and Scientist, you understand the complexity and critical interfaces of these systems. That knowledge is key when it comes to supporting the transition of Directed Energy Systems to the warfighter. We’re looking for an engineer and scientist who can use their skills to help our client identify and assess mid-Technology Readiness Level (TRL) systems for potential use in operational experimentation activities.

Our team is a diverse group of Research & Development experts, with the focus on supporting our client's goals to understand and assess the capabilities of Directed Energy systems. That’s why we need you, a High Energy Laser Engineer and Scientist, with a solid background in High Energy Lasers to help us design and develop experimentation plans, assess technology readiness, and advise our clients on technical matters. You’ll work alongside our clients to develop plans based upon your knowledge, and you'll make recommendations on potential areas of research to increase the knowledge base. You’ll directly impact the operational utility of Directed Energy Systems by assessing their system level capabilities, user interfaces, and supportability. We’ll look to you to share your Directed Energy expertise through leadership and mentoring junior staff. This is a chance to use your experience-based knowledge in Directed Energy while broadening your skillset into areas like Test & Evaluation, System Life Cycle & Sustainment and Predictive Analytics. You Have:

  • Experience in high energy laser system research, development and deployment
  • Experience working within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) to support multi-organization requirements
  • Knowledge of high energy lasers and advanced optics, laser component topology and construction and operation
  • Ability to provide advice on planning, develop plans, and implement tasks in support of client's experimentation objectives
  • Secret clearance
  • BA or BS degree and 5 years of experience with laser projects in a DOD environment or MA or MS degree in Physics or EE

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience in laser or optics oriented RDT&E, OT&E or equivalent US Government T&E activities
  • Knowledge of Air Force operations, tactical, strategic and maintenance
  • Ability to mentor and lead junior staff
  • Ability to perform Project Management or Systems Engineering related functions
  • Top Secret clearance
  • PhD degree in Physics or EE
  • DoD related certifications

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
