Laboratory Diagnostic Specialist

Key Role:
Provide technical capabilities to identify and evaluate laboratory systems and procedures related to foreign country capacity and capability to survey, detect, diagnose, and report outbreaks of pathogens and diseases of security concern. Perform research, conduct interviews related to and assessments of human and animal public health programs, including laboratory networks, diagnostics, human resources, and related laws and regulations, and write reports on the outcomes of research and assessments of disease surveillance programs and systems, including recommendations. Measure foreign countries’ laboratory diagnostic capabilities against international laboratory standards and guidelines, North American biological safety or biological security standards, and the US Select Agent Program. Interface with the client’s science and program management personnel and work collaboratively with a team of technical subject matters experts in science, disease surveillance, biosafety, and biosecurity and project management specialists.

Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience with working in a clinical, public health, or animal diagnostic laboratory

-Ability to evaluate laboratory processes and procedures at a research institution or a public health agency

-Ability to work on a team

-Ability to travel more than 30% of the time

-Ability to follow standard office computer systems

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience in working with biodefense, biosecurity, bio-surveillance, or health security

-Experience in consulting

-Experience with working internationally

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-Secret clearance

-BA or BS degree in Biological Sciences or a related field
