Mathematics Consultant

Key Role:
Serve as a strategic consultant for high-risk government research and development programs related to mathematical modeling and simulation tools, algorithms, and optimization frameworks. Work with world-class mathematicians in driving forward research efforts towards new development of applications for novel algorithms and the exploitation of cutting edge mathematical tools for new applications. Maintain and leverage technical expertise and relationships when serving clients. Provide strategic assessments of new technologies in support of senior decision-makers while conducting background research in evaluating the feasibility of defense applications for new technological concepts. Produce and present findings and recommendations to a team of colleagues and clients, assist with technical program management and program development, and brief materials out for government R&D efforts. Maintain responsibility for providing mathematics expertise in the exploration of new technology concepts and the identification of knowledge gaps in need of investment, assisting with monitoring and managing program progress for performance, risks, and issues, drafting technical briefings for both technical and public audiences, and working to meet client needs as part of a diverse team. This position requires the ability to travel for program reviews, site visits, and performer testing.
 

Basic Qualifications:
-3+ years of experience with research on mathematical modeling or optimization techniques
-2+ years of experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
-Ability to commute to Arlington, VA
-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-PhD degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
 

Additional Qualifications:
-2+ years of experience with postdoctoral or industry research
-Experience with defense research and development
-Knowledge of multiple mathematics fields a plus
-Possession of excellent client service skills
-Active Secret clearance
