Naval Architect, Senior

Key Role:
Design, develop, and evaluate the construction and design of US Navy ships and installation of ship system concepts in the areas of ship hydrodynamics, system design, concept development, and integration analysis of surface ships, unmanned vessels, or combatant crafts. Conduct hull form and hydrodynamic performance assessment, including analyzing the development of of hull form geometry and lines plans, hydrostatics and curves of form, resistance and powering estimates, and propulsor design and performance. Conduct appendage design, maneuvering analyses, seakeeping analyses, analysis of the development of model test plans, and observing and analyzing data from model tests or full-scale trials. Lead and perform naval architectural and engineering work for the form, strength, stability, performance, and seakeeping characteristics of new naval vessels or plans to alter existing naval vessels, and recommend and implement design changes, as necessary. Conduct hydrostatic, weight, and stability analyses, including center of gravity, buoyancy estimates, and trim, including intact and damaged stability analyses. Conduct and analyze structural design, developing hull girder bending moments and structural configurations and scantlings in accordance with appropriate rules or design standards, development of superstructure, mast, and local support structure to withstand primary and secondary loads.
 

Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience in working with NAVSEA
-Experience with the development of ship general arrangements, space arrangements and outfitting using 3D ship design software, including AutoCAD, calculating key vessel metrics, such as hydrodynamic and hydrostatic characteristics
-Experience with seakeeping and design concept studies and prototypes, including developing scale models and US naval surface combatant designs
-Knowledge of key regulatory body rules and the DoD acquisition process, including regulations, directives, and statutes
-Knowledge of the Navy’s application of the DoD acquisition process, contracting, sea trials, and key Naval ship acquisition roles and organizations
-Ability to work independently or as part of a design team preparing drawings and other design documents, review the work of other engineers for accuracy and correctness
-Ability to lead and collaborate with mixed teams comprised of government and industry personnel and apply problem-solving techniques when faced with complex problems under uncertainty
-Active Secret clearance
-BS degree in Architecture or Engineering

Additional Qualifications:
-BS degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or related field preferred; MS degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or related field a plus
