Military Gun Systems Engineer

Key Role:

Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and apply systems engineering practices to support the development and acquisition of gun weapon systems and associated ammunition and guided projectiles in various stages of development and acquisition at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). Work with Advanced Gun Weapon Systems, Major Caliber Guns Systems, Medium Caliber Gun Systems, Minor Caliber Gun Systems, Electric Gun Systems, Fire Control Systems, Optical Sensor Systems, Guided and Conventional Munitions, Combat systems, and ship integration. Lead or support technical and engineering tasks on behalf of the program office, including the design, requirements analysis, systems analysis, development, system-of-systems integration, acquisition planning, test and evaluation, mission or capability planning, and reliability or maintainability of weapon systems. Apply analytical and systematic approaches to support systems engineering design reviews, analyses, and studies for all phases of a weapon system life cycle, including technology development, demonstration, prototype development, test and evaluation, and technical analysis of testing requirements. Maintain responsibility for supporting the development of systems engineering documentation, including Concept of Operations (CONOPS), Capability Development Document (CDD), Systems Engineering Plan (SEP), Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM), and configuration and risk management artifacts. Conduct weapon systems technology planning studies to determine feasibility, application, and desirability of developing and implementing potential or existing weapon system technologies, components, and capabilities.

Basic Qualifications:

-Experience with applying the concepts of technical analyses, engineering analyses, and feasibility studies, resolving weapon system Test and Evaluation (T&E) issues, and conducting Weapon System T&E analyses

-Experience with systems engineering support to Naval Gun Weapon System

-Knowledge of US Navy Gun programs

-Secret clearance

-BS degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics

Additional Qualification:

-Experience with combat system operations and configuration management

-Experience with MK 45 5 Inch/54 and 62 Cal (Mod 4) Gun and both MK 86 and 160 GFCS design preferred

-Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

-Knowledge of US Navy Guns and Gunfire Control Systems (GFCS)
