Military Specification Technical Writer

Key Role:  
Analyze the writing, development, proofing, and maintenance of standards, manuals, procedures, user guides, and other publications for tactical communications and command, control, and communications systems technologies. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all products meet the program’s guidelines and are high quality relative to content, graphics, coverage, format, and style. Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel. Organize material and create documents according to established standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, grammar, formatting, and terminology. Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. Analyze the development of communications materials for publications, the Internet, strategic initiatives, user manuals, training materials, installation guides, whitepapers, and reports. Develop, write, and edit functional descriptions, system specifications, special reports, or other customer deliverables.
 

Basic Qualifications: 
-Experience with MIL-STDs
-Experience with analyzing the development of process flows, methods, procedures, and functional requirement documentation
-Experience with applying templates, inserting watermarks, creating cross-references, inserting or updating captions, and inserting or updating tables of contents and other references in Microsoft Word
-Experience with preparing reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences
-Knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Visio
-Secret clearance
-BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications: 
-Experience with document management, development, and tactical radios a plus
-Experience with writing and supporting Army contract documentation and processes
-Ability to be highly detail-oriented and organized and leverage analytic and problem-solving expertise
-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal expertise and proactive writing with a focus on grammar and usability

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
