Network Engineer, Senior

Key Role:

Maintain responsibility for the design and development of complex voice, data, and multi–media communications network solutions. Apply expert knowledge of voice and data transport facilities, protocols, operating systems, and standards and regulations for public and private data networks and the projected usage and required capacities based on analysis of existing and emerging products and services. Oversee the locating, evaluating, and specifying of products, services, and vendors. Work with vendors to evaluate new products and resolve equipment design problems. Direct the preparation of reports, as necessary, to inform and advise senior technical staff and management. Provide innovative solutions to complex functional problems that impact function's success. Lead tasks, including planning, execution, staff oversight, and status reporting for significant initiatives.


Basic Qualifications:

-7+ years of experience in a professional work environment

-5+ years of experience in a primary role of operating, troubleshooting, and installing network routers and switches

-5+ years of experience with designing and architecting routed and switched networks

-3+ years of experience in a DoD environment

-Active Secret clearance

-BA or BS degree


Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with network virtualization technologies

-Experience with multi–tenant network architectures

-Experience with scripting languages, including Pearl and Python and coding for network threshold events

-Knowledge of a wide variety of network routing and switching equipment devices from multiple vendors

-Ability to configure and install various network devices and services

-Ability to monitor network performance and resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning

-Ability to use current and emergent network design principles and protocols

-BA or BS degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field preferred; MA or MS degree a plus

-DoD 8570.01–M IAT Level III Certification

-Senior Network Administrators, Engineers, or Architects Certification for proposed solutions to routers and switches
