Optical Transport Systems Engineer

Key Role:

Perform complicated and difficult software and systems design engineering assignments under general supervision requiring a high degree of technical competence reflecting current state-of-the-art applications. Maintain full technical responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting technical projects in the design and development of computer systems hardware and software. Conduct independent technical investigations in software and systems design. Coordinate and consolidate design efforts on major projects. Prepare design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design support personnel.


Basic Qualifications:

-Experience with the planning for deployment of the Multi-Service Planning Platform (MSPP), Optical Digital Cross-connect (ODXC) technologies, and DWDM systems

-Experience with SONET, SDH, PDH, OTN, and DWDM transport equipment

-Knowledge of legacy SONET, SDH, and PDH protocols and emerging Layer 2 protocol, Ethernet, and OTN switching

-Knowledge of system and program documentation processes

-Ability to provide transport technology planning support to a diverse range of internal and client requirements, including assessment of new technologies and protocols to meet the requirements

-Ability to develop Bill Of Material (BOM), technology configuration for transport technologies to meet the service requirements

-Secret clearance


Additional Qualifications:

-Experience in OTN switching

-Ability to travel with government personnel to attend engineering Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs), support government project leads at internal and external project management meetings, develop briefing slides for senior leadership and project leads, develop whitepapers, and support the development of transport related engineering studies

-Possession of excellent interpersonal skills

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-BA or BS degree in CS or Engineering


Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
