Public Health Laboratory Specialist

Key Role:

Perform clinical and environmental specimen manipulation and apply required processes for handling infectious agents and critical reagents. Operate laboratory instrumentation, including performing certification, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting. Manage sample inventories in cryogenic and temperature ultra-low freezers. Support drafting and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintain meticulous laboratory notes, and apply a proactive approach to training. Follow strict quality assurance and biosafety guidelines, identify laboratory non-conforming events, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions and improvements to laboratory procedures. Work on the Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Draft and prepare written reports, PowerPoint presentations, and other communications on laboratory data, analytics, and research studies.

Basic Qualifications:

-1+ years of experience in a laboratory setting

-Experience with research

-Experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

-Knowledge of safe laboratory procedures and quality assurance

-Ability to draft, review, and implement SOPs

-Ability to develop and coordinate the sharing of health related educational or informational materials including manuscripts, reports and scientific abstracts
-BS degree
 

Additional Qualifications:
-Experience in a Biosafety Level 2 laboratory setting preferred

-Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical and non-technical presentations
