Social Scientist, Mid

Key Role

Leverage knowledge of research methodologies and principles in fields of statistics, surveys, data science, psychology, sociology, or economics. Support research functions, including literature review, study design, data collection, interviewing, data modeling, project testing, and creation of performance measurements to support project objectives. Conduct activities in support of project team’s objectives, and work closely with senior team members. Act as a research analyst embedded within a DoD research and analysis office and execute key activities in the survey research, including drawing the sample, constructing questionnaires, cleaning and weighting survey data, calculating descriptive and inferential statistics, visualizing data into tables and graphs, and writing up technical results in plain English. Execute key steps in focus group research, including drawing samples, composing focus groups, constructing interview questions, facilitating focus groups, analyzing open-ended data, and writing up technical results in plain English.

Basic Qualifications:

-3+ years of experience with applied research projects in social science

-Experience with Excel and SAS

-Ability to obtain security clearance

-BA or BS degree in Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, or Economics and 3 years of experience with applied research or MA or MS degree 

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with R, SPSS, survey software, or data visualization software

-Experience with DoD agencies and public health, resilience, retention, and military readiness topics, preferred

-Public Trust or Secret clearance

-MA or MS degree, preferred
