Materials Engineer

Key Role:

Design, fabricate, modify, and evaluate complicated and difficult mechanical and electro-mechanical components, sub-systems, and systems. Prepare design specifications, analysis, and recommendations for presentation and approval. Maintain technical responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting technical projects or phases of projects involving the design and development of new or improved products or processes. Investigate solutions to product or process problems and consolidate the results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects. Coordinate the efforts of drafters and designers, engineering technicians, and machine shop personnel, as required by assigned projects. Conduct independent technical investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component, or process specifications and requirements. Provide work leadership to junior employees, as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with investigating the diffusion rates in metal structures
  • Knowledge of parallel computing languages
  • Ability to investigate thermodynamic and material properties using density functional theory
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • MA or MS degree in Materials Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with working in an integrated product team
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming languages
  • Ability to work in a military or mission-oriented work environment
  • Secret clearance
