Principal Electrical Engineer

The Opportunity:

Our energy resilience division focuses on leveraging Booz Allen's leadership and expertise in Defense requirements to deliver the best solutions capable of meeting the needs of the most demanding, innovative, and cutting-edge clients in the federal government.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for driving our team's delivery of energy system design services to clients focused on increasing energy resilience on their military installations. You will provide technical leadership in critical emerging energy technologies like advanced nuclear reactors, hydrogen storage and fuel cell generation, chemical and physical energy storage, DC transmission and distribution systems, and distributed resource integration. Your team will be responsible for analyzing and developing solutions to energy resilience gaps, especially related to integrating on-site resources into microgrids for energy independence. 

In this role, you’ll also be responsible for researching, designing, developing, testing, or producing reports related to advanced energy systems. To this end, you'll need to employ your knowledge of electrical theory and materials properties. You'll also need to apply leading-edge principles, theories, and concepts and contribute to development of new methods of adapting technology solutions to meet complex energy requirements. The ability to operate with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision will be critical. This is a chance to use your engineering skills while contributing to national security. You Have:

  • 15+ years of  experience designing or building energy systems

  • 10+ years of experience with power system hardware design tools, including EasyPower, SKM, or ETAP, transmission and distribution architectures, and energy storage design

  • 10+ years of experience working with Department of Defense, utilities, commercial industry, or federal agencies

  • Knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), ASHRAE standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), NEC, NFPA, or IEEE

  • Master's degree in EE

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with Department of Navy installations, processes, and personnel

  • Experience technically leading and delivering large-scale energy solutions

  • Ability to work cross-functionally partnering with finance, business operations, marketing, and engineering

  • Experience preparing reports studying power systems, microgrids, and other utility systems

  • Knowledge of sustainable building design, building optimization, and clean energy technologies

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $75,600.00 to $172,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
