Astrophysicist and Aerospace Engineer

Key Role:

Leverage advanced and specialized physics research expertise to test and analyze physical phenomena, conduct and shape Research and Development (R&D) programs, and support S&T client challenges. Apply leading-edge principles, theories, and concepts, and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts. Work on unusually complex problems and provide highly innovative solutions. Operate with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision, and mentor or supervise employees in both firm and technical competencies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with orbital propagation tools or software, including simple SDP4/SGP8 analytic approaches and numerical codes for accounting for higher order gravity and non-gravity force terms
  • Experience with space domain awareness, space traffic management, space situational awareness, orbital debris, optical systems, radar signatures, modeling, and simulations
  • Experience with R&D or rapid prototyping, or agile software development efforts
  • Knowledge of space weather and impacts to earth’s thermosphere or ionosphere
  • Ability to code in Python, C++, and Rust
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team of diverse and multidisciplinary scientists, engineers, developers, business, and ex-military professionals
  • Secret clearance
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of experience in astrodynamics, or Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering and 3+ years of experience in astrodynamics

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with geospatial and python data analysis
  • Experience with data and computing, and publications in scientific journals
  • Experience with R, Julia, and Fortran
  • Ability to design training datasets that can be used in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning development
  • Ability to design cloud architecture for an astrophysics data science platform using Kubernetes, as well as serverless computing such as Lambda, and serverless database services such as Athena
  • Ability to translate functional requirements into technical requirements for the development of an astrophysics data science platform
  • Ability to design validation and testing for simulations of satellites and probability of detection
  • Ability to implement an astrophysics data science platform, making use of commercial cloud services such as AWS and Azure, as well as a locally managed public cloud with infrastructure leveraging Kubernetes, Docker, and Jupyter Hub
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • TS/SCI clearance

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $110,000.00 to $250,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
