Model-Based Systems Engineer

The Opportunity:

Your ability to understand, capture, and analyze data center architecture and IT systems will make you integral to delivering customer-focused engineering solutions.


As a model-based systems engineer (MBSE), you will have the unique opportunity to help evaluate, improve, and modernize IT systems for a major earth science data center responsible for science data vital to understanding the causes of global climate change and the consequences of human activities on the climate. You will have the opportunity to leverage and grow your model-based systems engineering (MSBE) skills and knowledge of earth science data to improve service delivery to worldwide users including scientists, educators, decision-makers, and the public.


Additional responsibilities will include assessing relevant requirements to enable the organization’s ability to develop architectures using advanced digital architecture tools, consulting with subject matter experts and stakeholders to uncover hidden insight, supporting IT solutions from ideation to decommission, and supporting informed decision-making related to IT systems and services.

You Have: 

  • 3+ years of experience as a systems engineer, network engineer, IT system administrator, or in a technical profession
  • Knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and IT systems
  • Knowledge of IT project life cycles and project management techniques
  • Ability to support on-site in Hampton, Virginia two days per week
  • Ability to leverage consulting skills and communicate effectively with organizational leadership, IT administrators, software developers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts
  • Ability to conduct troubleshooting, impact analysis, and recommend system improvements to minimize outages
  • Ability to develop and maintain digital architecture models and documentation associated with IT systems
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex requirements, data flow, system connections, and system interconnections
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering

Nice If You Have: 

  • Experience with data centers and enterprise architecture
  • Experience with NoMagic MagicDraw, Sparx Enterprise Architect, IBM Rhapsody, or similar digital engineering tools
  • Knowledge of System Modeling Language (SysML) or Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Knowledge of DevOps, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, microservices architecture, cloud architecture, and similar concepts
  • Knowledge of Agile or Scaled Agile methodologies
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $60,300.00 to $137,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
