Quantum Research Scientist, Senior

The Challenge:

Are you excited at the prospect of unlocking the secrets held by a data set? Are you fascinated by the possibilities presented by the IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence advances? In an increasingly connected world, massive amounts of structured and unstructured data open up new opportunities. As a data scientist, you can turn these complex data sets into useful information to solve global challenges. Across private and public sectors — from fraud detection, to cancer research, to national intelligence — you know the answers are in the data.

We have an opportunity for you to use your leadership and analytical skills to improve strategic innovation across sectors of the federal government. You’ll work closely with your customer to understand their questions and needs, and then dig into their data-rich environment to find the pieces of their information puzzle. You’ll mentor teammates, develop algorithms, write scripts, build predictive analytics, apply machine learning, and use the right combination of tools and frameworks to turn that set of disparate data points into objective answers to help federal organizations make informed decisions. You’ll provide your customer with a deep understanding of their data, what it all means, and how they can use it. Join us as we use data science and machine learning for good in the federal government. This position is a hybrid role with a combination of working at a Booz Allen office or client site and working remotely.

Empower change with us.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience in quantum technology work, including academic or professional research, project management, or consulting

  • Experience with research in the areas of ion traps, superconducting qubits, semiconducting circuits, and linear optics or theoretical research on topics of quantum computing, quantum information, or quantum annealing

  • Experience with programming languages for analytics or scientific applications

  • Ability to effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience with active research in physics, chemistry, or mathematics, including undergrad, graduate school, or postdoctoral research

  • Experience in a leadership role, including project management and project evaluation

  • Knowledge of solid-state quantum computing theory or technologies, including spin qubits, quantum defects, quantum memory, or nuclear spin qubits

  • Knowledge of solid-state quantum sensing and quantum metrology, including vector magnetometry, electrometry, NV centers, silicon vacancies, diamond, silicon carbide, or Rydberg atoms

  • Knowledge of quantum networks, including quantum emitters, quantum repeaters, spin-photon interfaces, solid-state single-photon sources, solid-state entangled photon sources, nanophotonics, photonic crystals and cavities, rare-earth atoms, or optical frequency combs

  • Knowledge of data science or data analytics methods and tools

  • Ability to exhibit flexibility and initiative when dealing with ambiguous and fast-paced situations

  • Secret clearance

  • Master's degree preferred; Doctorate degree a plus

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
