Energy Communications Consultant

Key Role:

Provide professional public affairs, media relations, and stakeholder outreach support to a government research and development client. Translate technical and scientific information into compelling, plain-language narratives for reporters, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Build, maintain, and update press lists, editorial calendars, and stakeholder outreach databases. Draft talking points and media interview briefing memos for senior client leadership and assist with pitching client announcements to reporters, Capitol Hill offices, and stakeholder associations. Manage media outreach, attendance, and support for annual client conference.


Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience with media and stakeholder outreach in a federal government agency, Capitol Hill office, political campaign, nonprofit, or trade organization setting
  • 4+ years of experience with public relations writing, including press releases, media advisories, pitch memos, editorial memos, or talking points
  • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring outcome-based media campaigns using media platform
  • Ability to leverage established relationships with energy and environmental reporters and key local, regional, or national outlets
  • Ability to represent at high-level meetings or engagements
  • Ability to translate complicated scientific or technical language for non-technical audiences
  • Ability to organize complex projects
  • Ability to exhibit flexibility and adaptability, and work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Cision
  • Experience in a consulting environment
  • Knowledge of energy and finance publications and associations, and Capitol Hill media and offices
  • Knowledge of the energy industry
  • Possession of excellent client service skills
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and storytelling skills
  • Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Political Science, or a related field

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $54,000.00 to $123,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
