Database Administrator

Key Role:

Support the government client’s security operations mission. Perform the deployment, operation, administration, troubleshooting, updating, securing, and maintenance of systems, software, and infrastructure that enable enterprise cybersecurity capabilities. Operate, maintain, and administer existing network and systems architectures. Perform network administration, including hardware, software, physical cabling, and IP address management. Support a broad range of technical environments and responsibilities, including networking and security devices, circuits, automated systems, servers, client computers, applications, databases, voice systems, helpdesk support, asset and inventory management, and field technical support.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with administration, operations and maintenance (O&M), and troubleshooting of Microsoft SQL and various databases such as DB2, Oracle, Mongo, and MySQL, in enterprise environments
  • 5+ years of experience in database performance tuning, security, and management roles focused on daily or regularly scheduled administration, maintenance, storage, and optimization of the existing database systems
  • 2+ years of experience supporting an enterprise GRC platform and application, including RSA Archer
  • Knowledge of dealing with and troubleshooting SQL instances which take advantage of Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC) services and capabilities to support Always On availability groups and SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances
  • Knowledge of information security policies aligned with maintaining database security and compliance
  • Ability to manage SQL Server environments supporting Dev, Test, UAT, and Production GRC platform and application instances hosted in managed infrastructure
  • Ability to assist application administrator’s code efficient SQL statements, review the SQL statements for performance, and make recommendations for indexes, and assist with designing, implementing, and testing database changes to support business applications
  • Ability to maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters, implementing new releases, completing maintenance requirements, and evaluating computer operating systems if necessary

  • Bachelor’s degree in a CS or Information Systems field

Additional Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience working in information security
  • Experience with security hardening framework standards and regulations from internet security, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53 Revision 5, and STIGs
  • Experience performing database administration tasks with performance tuning, database administration, and data maintenance
  • Knowledge of using tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), PowerShell, and ServiceNow, to administer, monitor, and track all DBA activities
  • Ability to design and plan upgrade strategies, including coordination with system administrators and developers, upgrade plans, including checklist, milestones, complete checkout, and exercised fallback procedures, and perform administration and O&M tasks from the command line
  • Ability to implement secure access controls, patch management, and vulnerability remediations in line with STIGs and infrastructure policies
  • Ability to archer database configurations aligned with support standards and meet high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) requirements
  • Ability to collaborate with HCAP platform teams and OS-managed infrastructure teams to maintain alignment between Archer and shared services
  • Ability to design, implement, maintain, and utilize advanced Data Query Language (DQL), Data Definition Language (DDL), Data Control Language (DCL), or Data Manipulation Language (DML) to automate tasks, enhance system functionalities, and troubleshoot issues
  • Microsoft Database Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Database Administrator Certification

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $61,900.00 to $141,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
