Data Scientist

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to support USAFRICOM, driving impactful, data-driven decision-making through the application of advanced analytics and data engineering best practices. In this role, you will process, store, and quantitatively exploit Publicly Available Information (PAI) and Commercially Available Information (CAI), developing and implementing machine learning models and automated analytics across multi-source datasets. You will conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA), perform large-scale data queries, and build scalable ETL pipelines using tools/languages such as Python, Spark, Synapse, and Neo4j in an Azure cloud environment to transform complex data into actionable insights. A core responsibility includes ensuring compliance with data security, regulatory requirements, and Intelligence Community tradecraft standards while maintaining high data quality.

You will clean, organize, integrate, and maintain data models and develop dynamic visualizations, dashboards, and reports that clearly communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Working closely with military personnel, partner nations, policymakers, and cross-functional teams, you will identify data needs, translate requirements into analytical solutions, and deliver fused intelligence products that support mission objectives. You will document analytic methodologies, balance accuracy with operational timelines, and provide formal and informal briefings, presentations, and decision-support materials. Additionally, you will conduct customer outreach, track stakeholder satisfaction, and contribute to reporting and accountability mechanisms.

As a subject matter expert in data analysis and PAI and CAI, you will research and recommend emerging tools, techniques, and technologies to enhance analytical capabilities. You will participate in national and international meetings, committees, and evaluations of analytical tools and software, supporting continuous improvement of mission systems. This role requires adherence to strict security protocols, including Intelligence Community directives and operational security measures, and may involve the use of advanced collection techniques within approved environments. You will leverage the ability to operate independently, synthesize complex information into clear insights, and deliver high-quality analytical products in support of strategic and operational priorities.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering, including ETL development, data modeling, data integration, and geospatial datasets
  • 4+ years of experience using big data technologies, such as Spark, Elastic, or Snowflake
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python
  • Experience working within the IC and DoD joint environment
  • Knowledge of automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) techniques
  • Ability to manage multiple projects on tight deadlines while clearly conveying technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams to achieve objectives, and translate stakeholder needs into actionable solutions
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • HS diploma and 8+ years of experience in mathematics, statistics, or data science, or Associate's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Data Science and 4+ years of experience in mathematics, statistics, or data science

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with intelligence oversight policies and data governance standards
  • Experience with cloud-based data solutions in the Azure ecosystem
  • Experience with graph databases like Neo4j or Cosmos DB
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) and automated analytics
  • Experience implementing ML or AI solutions
  • Possession of excellent analytical skills, for querying and interpreting large data sets
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possession of excellent organizational and client-facing skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Data Science

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
