Defense Policy Analyst, mid

Key Role:

Support a DoD client overseeing compliance with law and DoD policy, including military personnel matters that impact wounded, ill, and injured service members. Draft written products or advise on messaging, as required, including matters that are subject to scrutiny by DoD leaders. Provide recommendations for policy and operational improvements and draft DoD issuance language. Leverage expertise in complex reports, issue papers, staff packages, action memoranda, policy change and clarification memoranda, including briefings that identify key issues and decision points for government leaders consideration, and recommend a course of action for senior leaders. Support unified legislative and budgeting proposals (ULBs) and prepare clients for occasional meetings with client committees. Provide support management and oversight of an approximately 10-person team in the development of all products and recommendations. Contribute intellectual capital and expertise to and seek the same from other non-policy workstream colleagues who are responsible for performance measurement, including analytics, operational quality assurance, strategic planning, and other programmatic lines of effort.

Basic Qualifications:

-4+ years of experience in a professional work environment

-3+ years of experience with supporting senior government leaders who oversee DoD programs

-3+ years of experience with external organizations and key stakeholders, including communicating complex issues in a concise, accurate manner to senior leaders

-2+ years of experience with managing staff

-Knowledge of the legislative process, laws, regulations, and DoD issuances

-Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

-Ability to conduct comprehensive information gathering and critical analyses and present ideas to senior audiences in both verbal and written formats, including clearly, logically, and persuasively

-Ability to deliver complex policy analyses and work collaboratively to achieve measurable outcomes

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-BA or BS degree  

Additional Qualifications: 

-Experience with advising DoD leaders

-MA or MS degree in Business Administration, Public or Policy Administration, Political Science, or Law
