Instructional Designer

The Challenge: 
Do you want to develop training that will transform the Air Force? As an instructional developer, you know that even the best tools and processes can’t have impact without the right training. Constructing an interactive course that teaches critical information requires a real passion for understanding the needs of your customer. We have an opportunity for an instructional developer who is committed to solving some of the toughest challenges in the Air Force by crafting effective training.

On our team, you’ll work with product designers, SMEs, and facilitators to capture your customer’s training needs and advise them on the right learning solution to help them accomplish their mission. Putting the learner at the center of the training experience, you’ll design synchronous and asynchronous material and performance support tools. Following the ADDIE model, you’ll build training material with multimedia specialists, graphic artists, and Air Force SMEs, facilitators, and stakeholders. You’ll use your technical skills, creativity, and experience to come up with new ideas to develop an engaging, interactive learning experience on screen or in a classroom. You’ll recommend cutting-edge multimedia technologies and strategies, including blended learning, microlearning, gamification, and design thinking to build a successful and impactful learning environment.

You know communication is key, so you’ll meet with product designers and Air Force SMEs, facilitators, and stakeholders throughout the process to discuss learning material and incorporate feedback. To ensure your solution is hitting the mark, you’ll collect and analyze results using evaluation methodologies such as the Kirkpatrick Model, then fine tune your training for maximum impact. You’ll be able to build your leadership skills as you share your expertise through leadership and mentoring. As a leader, you’ll identify new opportunities to build solutions to your customer’s learning needs. This is a chance to use your deep understanding of training methodologies to build a creative learning experience that will engage students. You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in working with or for the DoD
  • 3+ years of experience with DoD training and education programs
  • 3+ years of experience with learning analysis and strategy, content design and development, content delivery, learning technology, or learning evaluation
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Excel
  • Knowledge of e-Learning standards, including SCORM and Section 508 requirements, Web usability standards and practices, and evaluation models, such as Kirkpatrick
  • Ability to interact effectively with government and Air Force clients at various levels
  • Ability to work as part of a tightly integrated team and collaborate across functional and organizational boundaries
  • Secret clearance required
  • BA or BS degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience as a DoD or Air Force instructional designer, educator, or consultant in a professional or federal work environment
  • Experience with using a variety of Air Force instructional technology and distributed learning solutions, including PEX, ADLS, and other CBT programs
  • Knowledge of Air Force principles, procedures, methods, and practices governing Force Development education and training
  • Knowledge of Air Force career management practices and education programs for officer, enlisted, and civil service Air Force members
  • Ability to translate information, develop insights, and work alongside clients at client sites
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, and analyze complex material
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • BA or BS degree in Education, Instructional Design, or Instructional Technology
