Public Affairs Communication Strategist, Senior

Key Role:

Provide direct support to meet Combatant Command strategic and operational-level exercise and mission objectives. Apply knowledge of operations, military planning, or exercise design to develop communication plans across the communication life cycle, including conceptualization, brainstorming, stakeholder and client engagement, and final product development. Participate in and supports public affairs planning for Combatant Command and component exercises. Plan and schedule against key milestones related to exercise schedules. Attend exercise planning conferences, meetings, and working groups, as required. Analyze, coordinate, and execute communication strategies and plans that synchronize public affairs efforts across the theater. Contribute to the public affairs assessment process through applying lessons learned and open source research data to the communication planning process. This position requires travel of up to 25% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with working in the DoD as a military, civilian, or contractor in a Joint or combined HQ, major command, or higher headquarters
  • 3+ years of experience with planning at the Component Command, Combatant Command, or Service level
  • 3+ years of experience with strategic communication
  • Completion of DINFOS Public Affairs Qualification Course
  • Knowledge of Joint staffing functions and actions
  • Ability to be a highly flexible self-starter and operate in a high-tempo environment under less than ideal time-management conditions
  • Ability to manage planning efforts for multiple events simultaneously
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Secret clearance
  • BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with Adaptive Planning and Execution (APEX) or the Joint Planning Process (JPP)
  • Experience in exercise planning
  • Experience with U.S. European Command area of responsibility
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possession of excellent research and organizational skills
  • Possession of excellent consulting skills
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • BA or BS degree in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field preferred; MA or MS degree in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field a plus
