Key Role:
Provide translation and interpretation linguist support during the planning process for US Japan bilaterally established Training Relocation (TR) Programs and related exercises. Provide translation and interpretation support and analysis during the Joint Exercise Life Cycle (JELC) for Japan exercises to achieve objectives per applicable Operations Plans and Concept Plans. Conduct analysis during all phases of the JELC and provide technical recommendations that meet US Forces Japan (USFJ) TR exercise support goals and training objectives requiring linguist support. Attend Joint, bilateral, and multinational planning conferences, working groups, and site surveys to provide linguist support to client attendees on the conduct of TR-related exercises and enabling actions. Review, analyze, and translate Japan Self Defense Forces (JSDF) after action review (AAR) comments from each event of the JELC for the purpose of improving tactics, techniques, and procedures, enhance the client's planning and execution process, and improve exercise training objectives by ensuring Lessons Learned and JSDF AAR findings are integrated into future TR-related exercises.
Basic Qualifications:
-5+ years of experience with Indo-Pacific Area of Operations exercise planning
-2+ years of experience with translation and interpretation support
-Experience with Microsoft Office Suite for translation purposes
-Experience with program or project management principals, process improvement, and mission planning
-Knowledge of Japan Self Defense Forces (JSDF) exercise construct, Theater Security Cooperation, and Training and Readiness Objectives
-Knowledge of DoD networks for information gathering
-Knowledge of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force structure and employment and combined arms operations
-Ability to communicate effectively to interface with senior military civilian officials, managers, and subordinates
-Ability to obtain a security clearance
-BA or BS degree
Additional Qualifications:
-Experience with military translation and interpretation
-Knowledge of Japanese culture
-Ability to advise leadership in the design of an exercise construct
