Missile Systems Engineer, Lead

Candidate will be expected to apply their knowledge of engineering theories, principles, best practices, methods, analysis and research techniques in the investigation and resolution of complex technical problems associated with U.S. Navy Over the Horizon (OTH) Surface to Surface Missile (SSM) systems requirements, design, test, and production.  Advise and assist the Government in the planning and conduct of technical reviews and evaluation of programs to ensure the proper maturity of the design prior to the start of production, as well as coordinating the efforts of a technical support staff in the performance of all assigned tasks.  Review and evaluate a program’s progress and make recommendations to correct any identified technical deficiencies or risks impacting cost and schedule considerations.  Evaluate a Prime’s, and their suppliers or vendors capabilities to provide required products or services within costs and schedule constraints.

Candidate will oversee, assist with, participate in or perform the following: system requirements analysis, definition, and management; development of functional architectures; the conduct of model and simulation efforts, system performance analysis, interface definition, and trade studies; supplier production qualification assessments and tests (PQTs); ensuring missile systems meet Insensitive Munitions requirements; system design, systems integration and test, verification and validation (Including launcher and platform interface integration efforts); ensure that the early design efforts achieve a balance among service-life, reliability, availability, maintainability, testability, life-cycle costs while meeting all requirements and best support program objectives (including propulsion development, Technology Insertion and Rapid Development processes); review and recommend for approval/rejection of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs); the conduct of Process Failure Modes Effects Analysis (PFMEAs) assessments, and the development and implementation of recommended corrective actions; reviews or assessments to ensure products meet Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) and Personnel (HERP) and Electrical Explosives Safety requirements; preparations for Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB) reviews; identify and evaluates technical risks associated with missile development and system performance; the coordination and conduct of Failure Review Boards (FRBs); and Fleet Introduction efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of relevant domain experience with U.S. Navy OTH SSMs missile design and production related to the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), TOMAHAWK or Harpoon systems.
  • Ability to comprehend complex technical problems where capabilities are affected by technical achievability, affordability, and schedule.
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science

Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in two or more of the following areas as they relate to U.S. Navy OTH SSM systems: tactical missile design principles, system performance modeling and analysis, flight dynamics, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC), RF/optical/passive sensors technologies, fuzing technologies, warhead design, energetics, propulsion, Technology Insertion and Agile development processes, system engineering, modeling and simulation, parts engineering, reliability engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, structural analysis, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) test requirements, production engineering and test, development and/or operational test and evaluation (DT/OT&E) efforts.
  • MS degree in a relevant engineering or technical field

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.
