Wargame Campaign Planner

Key Role:

Serve as part of the team and support Joint Force Development in developing military capabilities for multiple combatant command and coalition clients. Plan and execute campaigns of experimentation to provide coordinated review and validation of Joint concepts and concept of operations (CONOPS), Concept-Required Capabilities, Capabilities-Based Assessments (CBA), and other directed studies. Participate in workgroups, exercises, experiments, and wargames to integrate Joint Force capabilities and requirements, support CONOPs development, CBA, and Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System documentation, including using constructed scenarios and vignettes, data collection, data reduction, and analysis, and prepare reports and briefing materials. Brief at planning conferences of various sizes and culminate findings in clear succinct reporting that will be actionable to managers and fellow planners. Assist with the development of operating concepts, campaign plans, and supporting briefs and analyses by performing research, course of action analysis, and coordination among key internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience as a former Field Grade Officer in military operations
  • Experience with planning, executing, and facilitating exercises, wargames, and experiments, as a team lead conducting studies, developing capabilities, and evaluating capabilities required
  • Experience with technical writing of concept documents and formal experiment reports required
  • Knowledge of Joint Concepts, including Concept Framework, DoD transformation, and computer operations and software, including Windows and Office Suite
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with operating on a Combatant Command, Joint, or Service headquarters staff
  • Experience with working in operational experimentation and the use of stochastic simulations
  • Ability to respond accurately and quickly to internal and external staff taskings, develop and coordinate detailed staff packages, develop concise reports for briefings, and deliver them to senior DoD leaders
  • Ability to effectively interpret the intent of a client’s needs and help shape and form the solution by leveraging team capabilities
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills, including communicating with senior managers and coordinate with partners in oral and written formats effectively
