Job Description
Key Role:
Provide linguist services in translation and interpretation in support of joint and bilateral maritime objectives of the U.S.-Japan Mutual Security Treaty. Conduct Japanese and American cultural analysis and provide guidance and advice to optimize bilateral understanding and communications in English and Japanese. Facilitate U.S.-Japanese bilateral military efforts at the tactical and operational levels of military operations, including social events, community engagements events, key leader’s engagements in a variety of civil and military environments and settings such as media and press engagements, table-top discussion and wargames, military planning, and execution of exercises and operations. Attend joint, bilateral, or multinational planning conferences, working groups, and site surveys to provide linguist support to client attendees on the conduct of maritime operations, activities, and engagements. Attend events that will occur in austere environments, on ships, and in aircraft, and include occasional evening and weekend work. Review, analyze, and translate letters, invitations, certificates, plot plans, procedures, briefs, military planning documents, and a variety of other related documents as directed by the client.
Basic Qualifications:
2+ years of experience with military operations and coordination with adjacent components and higher headquarters commands
Experience in translation and interpretation support of military operations
Experience advising leadership on cultural matters to achieve military objectives
Experience with military organization and culture of partner allies in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Area of Operations, the Japanese culture, U.S. military organization and culture, and how U.S. Forces interact and integrate
Knowledge of the U.S.-Japan Alliance
Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends
Ability to clearly communicate complex topics verbally and in writing in both English and Japanese languages to senior military and civilian leaders and their respective staffs
Secret clearance
HS diploma or GED
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with Department of Defense networks for information gathering, including Non-classified Internet Protocol Router, Secret Internet Protocol Router, and CENTRIX
Knowledge of military terms for all branches of service and military organization and culture of the U.S. military and the Indo-Pacific region in English and Japanese
Bachelor's degree in Japanese Language or Culture preferred
Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $69,300.00 to $158,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
