As a senior solid rocket motor engineer on our team, you’ll contribute to the direction of mission-critical solutions for the U.S. Navy by evaluating, improving, and designing leading-edge aerospace technology associated with solid rocket motors. You’ll work with engineers across the company and collaborate with clients to deliver world-class solutions to solid rocket motor design, testing, and manufacturing. Your engineering knowledge will expand and improve Department of Defense’s capabilities to protect national security and the warfighter. You Have: 

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, including with rocket motor system development

  • Experience with rocket propulsion systems such as MK104 Dual Thrust Rocket Motor (DTRM), MK72 Booster, Hydra 70, and Jet Assisted Take-Off (JATO) rocket motor

  • Experience with testing and manufacturing rocket motor systems

  • Experience with developing system specifications, evaluating design or technology options, completing system development, equipment testing, system architectures, and engineering documentation

  • Experience communicating both verbally and in writing with senior level management

  • Ability to prepare complex reports, briefings, and presentations

  • Secret clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics

Nice If You Have: 

  • Experience in developing Technical Data Package (TDP) drawings documenting rocket motor designs used for fabrication

  • Experience in ordnance assessment of Fleet assets, including inspection, aging analysis and testing of Fleet returned assets

  • Experience with rocket motor mishap investigations, including catastrophic incidents such as a motor explosion

  • Experience as a lead engineer, team lead, and project or technical manager of a rocket motor program 

  • Experience with DoD technical and engineering requirements in support of NAVSEA programs

  • Knowledge of solid rocket motor formulations, including AP composite and double base propellant formulations

  • Knowledge of test procedures and specifications covering environmental life cycle, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-DTL-901, and MIL-STD-464, Insensitive Munitions, including MIL-STD-2105, hazard classification, including NAVSEAINST 8020.8, static fire, including internal ballistics assessment, ground launch, including external ballistics assessment, and propellant testing, including NAVSEAINST 8020.8

  • Knowledge of radiographic inspection criteria for propellant grains and assembled rocket motors

  • Knowledge of system safety practices and processes affecting rocket motor system development 

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
