Biomedical Consultant, Mid

Key Role:

Work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment as a scientific or technical advisor in biomedical sciences. Leverage a breadth of expertise to assess technologies across a broad range of applications to work with world-class scientists to drive research efforts across a range of technology areas. Provide strategic assessments of new technologies to support the organization's goals, create technical reports, present findings, track technological progress, develop technology program plans, and perform other related tasks required by the client. Assist with technical program management, program development, and briefing materials for government R&D efforts and deliver high-quality work products to support projects. Offer solutions and new ideas and identify opportunities to grow an existing business or support firmwide initiatives. Interact regularly with clients and present work products to clients. Prioritize deliverables and work independently with little guidance. This position is located in Arlington, VA.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with research in human physiology, trauma pathophysiology, remote sensing, standoff detection, signal processing, clinical decision support, or machine learning applied to the development of biomedical technology for assessment and management of traumatic injuries, including time as a graduate student

  • 5+ years of experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to display multiple first-author or corresponding-author contributions to peer-reviewed papers or patents

  • Ability to explain and present complex scientific concepts to a broad audience

  • Ability to prioritize and handle a wide variety of tasks, including briefing support and general administrative duties, with minimal supervision

  • Ability to commute to Arlington, VA

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • Doctorate degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or Physical Sciences

Additional Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with postdoctoral academic or industrial research

  • Experience with exploring and critically evaluating scientific literature for emerging biotechnology

  • Experience in research in the areas of field-deployable non-contact technologies for injury detection and health monitoring, the discovery of novel diagnostic and prognostic injury biomarkers, development and validation of machine learning models to support clinical decision making, development of an adaptive, closed-loop clinical system to optimize patient care, biomaterials engineering for wound treatment, or development of bio-artificial blood substitutes

  • Experience developing, executing, or overseeing test and evaluation (T&E) activities and coordinating networks of DoD or other government stakeholders for independent verification and validation (IV&V)

  • Experience in nanotechnology and materials science relevant to wound healing and tissue engineering

  • Experience in regulatory processes and procedures, including FDA submissions for drugs, biologics, or devices, and conducting or managing clinical studies or trials

  • Experience in animal models relevant to the study of hemorrhage, complex trauma, or traumatic brain injury

  • Experience in DoD review processes relevant to animal subjects research or human subjects research

  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific writing

  • Secret clearance
