Quantum Photonics Scientist

The Challenge:

What if you could use your scientific and engineering skills to inform advanced research projects in integrated quantum photonics for next-generation defense applications? As a quantum photonics scientist, you understand the challenges and opportunities in developing photonic integrated circuits for optical clocks and other quantum systems. That knowledge is key when it comes to assisting the client with strategic consulting on Research and Development (R&D) to deploy quantum technology beyond laboratory settings.

On our team, you will have the opportunity to work with world-class scientists and engineers to shape national security investment through the development of cutting-edge technologies for military applications. You will leverage technical expertise to support senior client decision-makers with the strategic evaluation of new concepts and assessments of technological gaps. You will support our client’s mission by providing recommendations on the feasibility and potential impact of future research programs through preparing in-depth analyses, conducting background research, traveling to Research and Development (R&D) facilities, and interfacing with the Research and Development (R&D) community. You will work closely with government clients to track and evaluate the progress of sponsored research and communicate technical findings to a wide audience. This position will require travel within the US, when necessary to accommodate client needs, and is located in Arlington, VA.

You Have:

-5+ years of experience in integrated photonics Research and Development (R&D)

-Knowledge of atomic clocks, optical clocks, quantum sensors, or quantum information systems

-Ability to travel up to 25%

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science

Nice If You Have:

-Experience with the design, fabrication, and test of integrated photonic devices or circuits

-Experience in semiconductor laser physics and major laser architectures, including DFB, DBR, or external cavity

-Experience with performing or supporting government-sponsored research activities

-Knowledge of leading and emerging photonic material platforms, including silicon, indium phosphide, silicon nitride, or lithium niobite

-Knowledge of leading and emerging quantum physics platforms, including atomic vapors, trapped ions, superconducting qubits, cold atoms, NV centers, or quantum dots

-Knowledge of the factors affecting performance, stability, and environmental robustness of optical and atomic clocks

-Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication tools and processes

-Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

-Secret clearance

-Doctorate degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science
