Synthetic Biology Consultant

Key Role:

Work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment to provide scientific and technical support and program management of research and development (R&D) funding efforts focusing on breakthrough biotechnologies. Draw on deep technical knowledge and subject matter expertise to advise clients in areas that include synthetic biology and molecular biology with a strong focus on genome editing, cell engineering, and gene and cell therapeutics. Integrate deep analysis and review of experimental data and publications with diverse stakeholder incentives to provide strategic assessments and recommendations to help shape a high-risk, high-reward biotechnology R&D funding portfolio.

Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience with research in molecular biology or synthetic biology, including time as a graduate student

-5+ years of experience with authoring research articles, literature reviews, grant applications, peer reviews, reports, or program plans for both technical and non-technical audiences

-Ability to show multiple first-author contributions in peer-reviewed papers or patents

-Ability to navigate between deep technical details and high-level strategic visions comfortably

-Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects independently and proactively

-Ability to synthesize and communicate complex scientific concepts to a broad audience

-Ability to commute to Arlington, VA

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Bioengineering required

Additional Qualifications:

-2+ years of experience with postdoctoral or industry expertise

-Experience with biosafety and biosecurity 

-Experience with science and technology policies

-Ability to travel, as needed

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills, including scientific writing for a broad audience, such as research scientists and non-technical managers

-Active Secret clearance
