System Safety Engineer, Mid

The Challenge:

Our Weapon System Safety team supports senior-level DoD and Service personnel with system safety implementation and oversight for DoD weapon system programs. Leverage your specialized knowledge from a variety of technical disciplines, with training by our experienced system safety staff, to become a system safety practitioner. You will apply scientific and engineering principles, criteria, and techniques to identify and assess weapon system safety hazards and promote the implementation of mitigations to reduce warfighter risk.

As a systems engineer on our team, you'll enjoy a dynamic team environment of client and contractor staff while executing comprehensive system safety programs or individual tasks on a variety of systems, including unmanned systems, ground-based missile systems, surface vessel weapon and support systems, laser systems, and others. Typical work products, including System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), a variety of analyses, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem and System Hazard Analysis(SHA and SSHA), Operating and Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) analysis, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), and test report evaluations. You'll analyze data, develop written deliverables, assist with the presentation of results, and assist with the review of client system safety artifacts to verify compliance with requirements, policy, and guidance documents. You'll conduct these tasks in accordance with established plans and quality standards and the freedom to improve processes and advance the discipline of system safety.

You Have:

-Experience with EOD, System Test and Evaluation, Directed Energy System Design, or Electromagnetic Emission Effects and Susceptibility

-Ability to analyze, research, assess, and organize technical data into cohesive and clear technical reports and presentations

-Ability to organize, schedule, and facilitate technical meetings and working groups

-Secret clearance

-Bachelor’s degree

Nice If You Have:

-Experience with implementing DoD system safety programs

-Experience with the conduct of MIL-STD-882 safety analyses and safety program implementation

-Experience with NAVSEAINST 8020.6, Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB), or Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)

-Experience with one or more of the following areas: Digital Engineering, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Software Development, Solid-state Electrical Circuit Design, Unmanned Systems Design, Human Factors Engineering, or Fault Tree Analysis

-Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

-Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field

-Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Navy Principal for Safety (PFS), or Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
