Biological Technician

Key Role:

Develop new strategies for improving virus manipulation and analysis, standard operating procedures, and other methods. Conduct studies that help with the comprehension of the molecular and cellular basis of the pathogenesis, host range restrictions, and transmissibility of influenza viruses. Prepare written reports, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, and other communications, including those for publication in scientific journals. Present technical expertise and knowledge to a broad audience and train junior staff.

Basic Qualifications:

-4+ years of experience with molecular biology or virology

-Experience with viral laboratory techniques, including isolation, propagation, and characterization of viruses

-Experience with Biosafety Level 2 laboratory studies

-Experience with maintaining sample, reagent, and consumable inventory and recording quality compliance metrics

-Experience with maintaining laboratory equipment and recording quality compliance metrics

-Knowledge of genetic manipulation, including DNA and RNA purification, cloning of genes, and other manipulations in various plasmid vectors, viral, and bacterial hosts

-Knowledge of virus purification from cell culture or other hosts, including biochemical and biophysical analyses of virus particles and virus antigen quantification

-Ability to draft and prepare written reports, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, and communications for publication in scientific journals
-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-MS degree

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with working on influenza viral strain identification and characterization preferred

-Experience with lab quality systems, including CLIA, CAP, ISO, GLP, or QSR

-Experience with collecting, analyzing, and trending data sets

-Experience with participating in compliance audits

-Experience with Biosafety Level 3 laboratory studies a plus

-Ability to prioritize deliverables and work independently with little guidance

-Public Trust clearance

-MS degree in Molecular biology, Virology, or a related field
