Computation and Bioinformatics Scientist

Key Role:

Work closely with bench scientists to comprehend and help accomplish their research goals. Assist with the design, implementation, and execution of standard pipelines for routine genomics data analyses. Analyze the development of modular workflows that can be easily adapted to additional, rapidly evolving research requirements. Support the creation of a visualization platform for developed pipelines using R, Python, Tableau, .net framework, or similar tools. Prepare written reports, PowerPoint presentations, and other communications on surveillance and epidemiologic data, analytics, and research studies. Analyze and coordinate the sharing of health-related educational or informational materials, including reports, scientific abstracts and manuscripts, and responses to inquiries.

Basic Qualifications:

-2+ years of experience with bioinformatics, mathematics, biological sciences, or computer science

-Experience with UNIX or Linux systems including high performance computing (HPC) environments

-Knowledge of programming techniques using Python or JavaScript

-Knowledge of machine learning and statistical techniques, including hypothesis testing and software used in comparative and epidemiologic analysis, such as SAS or R

-Knowledge of the creation of SQL and NoSQL databases and data sets by working closely with lab scientists and statisticians

-BS degree in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Biological Science, or CS

Additional Qualifications:
-Experience with working on influenza viral strain identification and characterization preferred

-MS degree in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Biological Science, CS, or a related field a plus
