Molecular Virologist, Senior

Key Role:

Lead the design, innovation, and pilot of novel studies and methods by engaging with project teams proactively to define precise scientific questions that can be addressed with appropriately powered experimental designs. Develop new strategies for improving virus manipulation and analysis, standard operating procedures, and other methods. Conduct studies that help to comprehend the molecular and cellular basis of the pathogenesis, host range restrictions, and transmissibility of influenza viruses. Prepare written reports, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, and other communications. Prepare reports, presentations, and papers for publication in scientific journals. Present technical expertise to a broad audience and train junior staff.

Basic Qualifications:

-8+ years of experience with Influenza-related research, including virology, immunology, or epidemiology

-Experience with viral analysis and an excellent publication record

-Experience with Biosafety Level 2 and Biosafety Level 3 laboratory studies

-Knowledge of Federal Select Agent Program regulations

-Knowledge of quality management standards and regulatory requirements

-Ability to maintain excellent communication and draft and prepare written reports, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, and other communications for both scientific and non-technical audiences

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-PhD degree required

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience as a project manager working on influenza viral strain identification and characterization preferred

-Experience with working in genomics or vaccine development

-Experience with developing, implementing, and enforcing Select Agent Regulations

-Experience with managing public health and federal scientific partnerships in vaccine development and surveillance preferred

-PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Virology, or related fields
